A classic Alden item, the tassel moccasin loafer.
It has been over 70 years since the tassel moccasin was first released, but it is still a classic shoe with a long history that is loved all over the world.
It all began when Paul Lukas, a Hungarian actor who was active in Hollywood in the 1940s, asked two shoe stores to make him tassel-decorated shoes. He was not satisfied with the comfort of the shoes, so he asked shoe stores in New York and California to make them again. By coincidence, the two shoe stores in the east and west of the country asked Alden to make the shoes.
In response to this request, Alden came up with an original design for the first tassel moccasin, which was completed in 1948. By the 1950s, the quality of the tassel moccasin had improved, and over the course of several years it was introduced to traditional clothing stores across America, becoming a representative model of leather shoes.
