This is the garment from Arzac Kamakura that I felt showed the most "determination" this season. OUTIL's new collection, "VESTE REIMS," is a masterpiece that skillfully mashes up historical backgrounds and reconstructs them using modern Japanese dyeing techniques and material development.
1. Bringing the design of 1940s store brands to the modern era.
Original labels developed by major American department stores of the time, such as JCPenney and Montgomery Ward, were another major player in the golden age of workwear. While benchmarking the masterpieces of national brands like Levi's, they incorporated their own unique details and rational designs.
Uti adopts a rugged and perfectly crafted structure as its base. From the original tack buttons newly designed for the 26S/S collection, designer Uta's attention to detail is evident in every aspect, giving it a presence that surpasses vintage pieces.
2. The contrast created by traditional "indigo" and modern "rope dyeing"
The most striking features of this jacket are its "color" and "dyeing." Instead of chemical dyes, we use **natural indigo** derived from plants. Furthermore, the yarn is dyed using a technique called **rope dyeing**, which is used in the mecca of denim production .
Through the luxurious process of rope dyeing with natural indigo, the surface of the yarn is dyed a deep, sharp indigo blue, while the core remains white, creating a "white core" effect. As a result, with repeated wear, you can enjoy a beautiful, contrasting fade and a sense of depth, just like a vintage garment.
3. The "dry depth" created by cotton and hemp.
The fabric is an original blend of **85% cotton / 15% hemp**. By using indigo-dyed yarn for the warp threads and a blend of cotton and hemp yarn for the weft threads, the fabric has a unique texture and appearance.
The crisp texture and dry feel characteristic of hemp coexist with the soft, comfortable feel of cotton. The tough construction typical of American store brands and the depth of French materials are perfectly blended into a single product.
