My MAILLE GENERAC bags from OUTIL have arrived. They come in two colors: BLACK COFFEE and MIMOSA.
This pullover has a clear source of inspiration. It's a classic fleece pullover from a famous American outdoor brand. I think designer Yuya Uta held it in his hands and thought, "What kind of garment would it become if I reconstructed this using traditional French craftsmanship?"

A choice not found in vintage clothing: 100% cotton.
— Why 100% cotton?
When it comes to fleece, polyester is the standard material. It's lightweight, quick-drying, and suitable for mass production. Outdoor brands choosing polyester fleece makes sense from both a functional and practical standpoint.
OUTIL's MAILLE GENERAC deliberately avoids that convention. The material is 100% cotton. It's a brand-original cotton fleece fabric, made by carefully scratching and fuzzing a cotton knit without using any synthetic fibers.
Cotton has several advantages over polyester fleece. First, there's the texture —compared to polyester, cotton has a natural warmth and softness when it touches the skin directly. Second, it 's less prone to static electricity . Polyester fleece easily generates static electricity, attracting pollen and dust, but cotton has less of this problem. And then there's its aging process . Cotton becomes softer and more comfortable with each wear, and the fabric develops a unique character with each wash. This is a characteristic that polyester fleece simply cannot possess.
The reason there are so few vintage fleeces made from cotton is due to the high manufacturing costs and technical difficulties involved. This cotton fleece is the first fabric that OUTIL has been able to produce by partnering with a rare factory in France.

Another reason that makes MAILLE GENERAC special is its production background. This pullover is made entirely in one factory in France, from knitting the fabric to sewing the garments.
OUTIL's designer, Yuya Uta, has visited various parts of France many times, meeting artisans who are preserving traditional craftsmanship that continues to thrive despite being in danger of being forgotten in modern society. The French factory that produces MAILLE GENERAC is one such example. The integrated production process, from fabric making to sewing, ensures consistent quality and attention to detail. The weight of the "Made in France" label is embodied in this garment.
