AUBERGE / GARY,
Natural / Vintage Finish.
Reconstructing the 506XX using Caribbean Sea Island cotton.

AUBERGE's GARY has arrived. The color is NATURAL / VINTAGE FINISH—a denim jacket with a natural vintage look created through processing.

The inspiration for this piece came from Levi's classic "506XX (1st model)." Produced from around 1936 to 1952, it's the original denim jacket, and it's no exaggeration to say that countless modern denim jackets have been influenced by it—a truly historic jacket design. AUBERGE designer Manabu Kobayashi confronted this original design and fundamentally re-examined the materials used.

CARIBBEAN SEA ISLAND COTTON — What is Caribbean Sea Island Cotton?

Sea Island Cotton is the finest cotton, originating from the West Indies (Caribbean islands). It is characterized by its exceptionally long, fine, and uniform fibers. This fineness and length of the fibers creates a smooth texture and elegant sheen comparable to silk.

Its production volume is extremely small compared to the world's total cotton production, and its quality and rarity are comparable to wool of Super 120 grade or higher, making it one of the highest quality raw materials among cottons.

By weaving this Caribbean Sea Island cotton into denim fabric, it creates an exceptionally comfortable feel that avoids the stiffness often associated with regular denim . It becomes more comfortable with each wear, and you can enjoy the unique aging process characteristic of cotton.

The idea of using Caribbean Sea Island cotton in a denim jacket stems from both a deep respect for vintage denim and a determination to surpass it. It boasts a superb texture not found in vintage 506XX jackets. Yet, the silhouette and details retain the powerful presence of the original 506XX.

The 506XX is a denim jacket manufactured by Levi Strauss & Co. from around 1936 to 1952, and is also known as the "1st model." It is the original style of modern denim jackets, and its unique details are especially prized by vintage enthusiasts.

AUBERGE's GARY faithfully retains the distinctive details of the 506XX while modernizing it in terms of materials and tailoring.

  • Large flap pockets on the chest—the oversized pockets that symbolize the 506XX 1st model.
  • Cinch back (back adjustment belt) – a functional detail seen in workwear of that era.
  • Brass buttons – metal buttons are one of the distinguishing features of the 1st model.
  • Unique vintage finish processing—recreating a three-dimensional look and the texture of clothing that has been worn for many years.
  • 100% Caribbean Sea Island Cotton – a supremely soft denim fabric.
  • Each garment is delivered individually packaged in its original box.

— About the vintage finish process
AUBERGE GARY NATURAL VINTAGE FINISH - Overall silhouette

GARY's color name, "NATURAL / VINTAGE FINISH," accurately describes the nature of this finish. NATURAL refers to the natural color inherent in the Caribbean Sea Island cotton fabric. VINTAGE FINISH refers to the vintage finishing process uniquely developed by AUBERGE.

This processing creates a natural texture and a three-dimensional look that gives the garment a sense of having been cherished for many years. It's brand new, yet it looks as if someone has been carefully wearing it for a long time—that was my first impression of GARY.

— About dressing
ARZACH STYLING

T-shirt × GARY × Denim pants (Canada shirt style)
This authentic look features a GARY jacket worn over a T-shirt, paired with denim pants. The natural color of the Caribbean Sea Island cotton looks fantastic when combined with blue denim. The vintage finish adds a sophisticated touch to the overall style.

Turtleneck × GARY × Slacks (dressy layering)
As described in the product description, this outfit is a "refined dress layering look with neat trousers or a coat." It features a HERILL Golden Cash or cashmere turtleneck as an inner layer, paired with NEAT wool slacks. Despite being a denim jacket, the lustrous Caribbean Sea Island cotton gives it a dressy feel.

GARY × Coat innerwear (Autumn/Winter layering)
When worn as an inner layer under a coat, the GARY t-shirt peeks out from the coat's cuffs and front closure. The non-bulky texture of the Caribbean Sea Island cotton ensures comfort even when functioning as an inner layer under a coat. The natural color goes well with many coat colors, making it highly versatile.
