The inspiration for this piece came from knit cardigan jackets made in France before the 1930s. These are extremely rare in the vintage market, and AUBERGE has carefully reinterpreted the garment-making techniques of that era and recreated them using modern technology.

Before the 1930s, France had its own unique knitted jacket culture, predating the establishment of today's tailored jacket concept. This method of creating jacket shapes by knitting wool yarn was a testament to the ingenuity of French craftsmen in an era when sewing techniques were not as widespread as they are today.
The double-breasted style was a common feature of French knit jackets of that era. Unlike tailored double-breasted jackets, it offers the roominess and softness unique to knit material, while the overlapping double-breasted design creates a three-dimensional effect and formality. AUBERGE incorporates both of these aspects.
