I received the AUBERGE BOURGES CHARCOAL TOP. From a distance, you might think it's a worsted wool jacket. It has such a refined and dignified appearance. But when you actually hold it in your hands, you realize it's made from cotton and hemp.
"BOURGES" is the name of an ancient city located in central France. Known for its medieval Gothic architecture and famous for Bourges Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this city was once a vital center of French trade and culture. There is no coincidence that AUBERGE named this jacket after it.

BOURGES fabrics are created from three reference points.
① Stifel pinstripe
American company Stifel is a historic fabric manufacturer that specialized in producing lining fabrics for workwear during the 19th and 20th centuries. Its distinctive feature is the vibrant boot-mark (shoe sole pattern) selvedge, and it is widely known as "Stifel fabric" among vintage clothing enthusiasts. AUBERGE uses Stifel's pinstripe as one of its design references.
② Structure of Saddle Stitch Cloth
By combining the structure of saddle stitch cloth, a strong and dense weave used for horse saddles, the fabric gains a unique fullness and firmness.
③ Manapool yarn
The warp threads use extra-long staple cotton called "Manapool yarn." Extra-long staple cotton is high-quality cotton with a fiber length of 35mm or more, and among them, Manapool is a special yarn with a natural uneven texture. By combining this yarn with the melange yarn made by twisting it together, an organic texture that can never be achieved with uniform yarn is created. The weft threads are woven with Manapool yarn and cotton-hemp blend yarn alternately.
Combining three references and techniques, AUBERGE has created an original twisted melange stripe fabric that has a texture as if it had existed for a century. The use of threads of the same color but with slightly shifted tones creates a deep hue and a three-dimensional texture.

The silhouette incorporates elements of Euro coveralls (European workwear/coveralls), while adopting a tailored lapel design. This combination is BOURGES' greatest characteristic.
The relaxed fit of the coveralls and the formality of the lapels—these two elements coexist to create a garment that maintains the light and comfortable feel of a shirt jacket while appearing refined, like a worsted wool jacket. It has a fashionable atmosphere that sets it apart from American vintage. This is AUBERGE's approach to French vintage.
The lapel area is made of a contrasting fabric: ultra-thin black moleskin. Moleskin is a dense cotton material with a unique, slightly fuzzy surface texture, and was once widely used in French workwear. The contrast in texture between the main body's twisted stripe fabric and the moleskin subtly adds depth and sophistication to the jacket.
