I received the NEEDLES HOODED DOWN SUR COAT WAXED HIGH DENSITY. It comes in two colors: GREEN and BLACK.

The first thing you notice when you pick it up is its weight. It's heavy for a down coat—but that weight creates a texture and presence that's at the heart of this coat. With its wax-coated, high-density fabric, stowable hood, and wide, A-line silhouette, it exudes an overwhelming presence as your main winter outerwear.

The outer fabric of this coat is a high-density woven blend of cotton, polyester, and nylon. This fabric is then treated with an oiled-look wax coating.

Wax coating is a process that involves applying wax to the surface of the fabric. Originally a technique derived from oiled cotton (a process famously used in Barbour jackets, for example), it gives the fabric excellent wind resistance and durability. It is also characterized by a matte texture with reduced sheen and a unique, deep feel. Furthermore, one of the great pleasures of this process is being able to enjoy the aging process as the wax blends into the fabric with repeated wear, gradually changing its appearance.

The combination of high-density woven fabric and wax coating provides exceptional wind resistance for this coat. While using high-quality down (90% down, 10% feathers) in the filling, the outer shell effectively blocks the wind, maximizing the down's inherent warmth.

A "surcoat" is a long coat worn over armor in medieval Europe. NEEDLES has adapted the structure of this historical garment into a modern down coat.

Its most distinctive feature is the wide A-line silhouette that flares out towards the hem. While typical down jackets have a body-hugging structure, this coat widens considerably towards the bottom. As a result, you can wear a thick knit or cardigan underneath without feeling restricted at all. The design also enhances insulation by creating an air layer between layers.

• Diagonally placed front pockets—a detail that reinterprets the design of a surcoat in a modern way.
• The wide A-line silhouette that flares towards the hem offers greater flexibility in layering and contributes to warmth.
• High-quality down and feather filling (90%) - lightweight yet highly insulating.
• Ribbed cuffs (50% wool, 50% acrylic) – Prevents cold air from entering through the sleeves.
• Wax coating – windproof, durable, and unique aging process.

A deep, dark military green. The wax coating gives it a more complex look than a simple green. Depending on how the light hits it, it can appear olive or deep green, and the color shifts within a single garment—that's the charm of this green.

This color, where military and NEEDLES contexts naturally intersect, pairs well with both casual bottoms like denim and cargo pants, as well as more dressy bottoms like slacks, making it versatile and easy to style.

This wax-coated black jacket boasts a depth and matte texture that sets it apart from typical black outerwear. The subdued sheen prevents it from being overly assertive, allowing it to naturally complement any outfit.

This black waxed coat changes its appearance like leather the more you wear it. The wax gradually wears off in areas that experience stress, such as the elbows and shoulders, creating a unique aged look over time—a garment that you'll grow to love more and more the longer you wear it.

The A-line silhouette, which widens towards the hem, ensures comfort even when wearing a thick knit sweater underneath. The model is 180cm/80kg and is wearing a size M.
