2026AW AUBERGE / JOSE, FADED CHARCOAL.
AUBERGE / JOSE,
FADED CHARCOAL.
French military herringbone fabric × washable leather × handcrafted distressed finish.
A coverall that combines ruggedness and sophistication.
AUBERGE's JOSE has arrived. The color is FADED CHARCOAL—a faded charcoal gray, a garment with a complex look created by the distressed finish.
Based on the image of a French moleskin coverall, the material, processing, and details have all been reconstructed with AUBERGE's unique interpretation. While rooted in workwear, it avoids any clumsiness, resulting in a jacket where ruggedness and refinement coexist in perfect balance.
The fabric is pre-dyed with a "dye that washes out easily."
There are clothes that change color with each wash, clothes that you can "grow" with.
— About our original herringbone material
JOSE's fabric is an original herringbone material that is slightly thicker than the French military herringbone from the early 20th century and pre-dyed with a special, easily faded dye so that it stands out during product processing.
Herringbone is a type of woven fabric with a continuous, zigzag pattern resembling the bones of a fish (herring). There are two types of herringbone weaves: one where the front and back look the same, and another where the back appears to have a different weave. JOSE uses the traditional French type where the back appears to have a different weave . When you look at it from the front, it's herringbone; when you look at it from the back, it has a different texture—a beautiful traditional French weave that looks great from either side.
The meaning of "pre-dyeing with easily fading dyes" is that the color will naturally fade with repeated wear and washing. Not only is the color faded from the start, but the color continues to change as you wear it—the characteristic of clothing that "grows" with you is embodied in the choice of dye.
The material is a linen blend of 55% cotton and 45% linen. The addition of linen gives it a unique crispness, while the softness of cotton coexists with it. Unlike pure cotton, the dry elegance unique to linen, combined with the FADED CHARCOAL color, creates a French vintage look.
— Washable leather collar and cuffs
One of JOSE's most distinctive details is the collar and cuffs, which are made of washable leather . These leather details, not typically found on coveralls or work jackets, inject a touch of sophistication into the workwear context.
Washable leather is leather that has undergone a special tanning and processing process that allows it to be washed with water. By applying a hard washing process, it develops a suppleness and unique appearance as if it has been worn for many years. The leather collar and cuffs become softer the more you wear them, and their appearance deepens with each wash—the true charm of leather as a material that "grows" is embodied in the details of JOSE.
— Distressed finish by Japanese craftsmen
"Realistic distressed finish"—you'll understand what this means when you actually hold the garment in your hands. The distressed finish, applied by skilled Japanese craftsmen by hand to each garment, is not applied uniformly by machine, but rather is a process that takes into account the fading patterns that occur in vintage clothing through actual use.
Where wear is likely to occur, a natural fading occurs, while other areas retain a deep, rich color—this realistic unevenness is the meaning behind the color name "FADED CHARCOAL" and the essence of this processing. Despite being brand new, it possesses a natural texture and a three-dimensional, deep appearance as if it had been cherished for many years. This persuasive quality is what makes AUBERGE's distressed finishes so special.

— About dressing
JOSE × Turtleneck × Slacks (as a jacket)
This style features JOSE worn as a jacket. Pairing it with a plain cotton turtleneck from DRESS or a golden cash turtleneck from HERILL as an inner layer, and combining it with wool slacks from NEAT, creates a sophisticated look while maintaining a workwear context. The washable leather collar stands out at the neckline, creating a contrast with the inner layers.
JOSE × T-shirts & Sweatshirts (Casual)
This outfit takes advantage of the casual feel of the distressed finish and faded charcoal color. Simply throwing it on over a white t-shirt or an AUBERGE NIETZSCHE sweatshirt creates a vibe reminiscent of a French worker's day off. Whether you pair it with denim or BEZIERS bottoms, it naturally complements the vintage-like look of the JOSE jacket.
Nurturing JOSE – Styling through repeated washing
Because JOSE is made from fabric that has been pre-dyed with easily fading dyes, the color will change with each wear and wash. The used finish that is applied from the start will be layered with your own unique aging process—enjoying this change is the richest way to use a garment called JOSE. The feeling of it becoming more and more yours with each wash is similar to breaking in a pair of jeans.
